Assisi Asha Niketan
The Late Bishop Sylvester Monteiro of Aurangabad diocese invited the Congregation of Assisi Sisters of Mary Immaculate to the diocese of Aurangabad belong to Maharashtra State of India, 410 km away from Mumbai.
The Provincial responded positively to this invitation and sent two sisters to make the survey of mentally handicapped children who were not cared. So the provincial and her team decided to establish a special school for the mentally retarded children in Aurangabad. The Diocese has generously donated a piece of land and an old building to begin an institution for these neglected children.
The provincial assigned a group of sisters for these purposes that have started Assisi Asha Niketan Special School for the mentally retarded on 1st July 2001. In course of time we have constructed a new School building and furnished with necessary equipments. So far 135 students have taken admission in our institution. The school is recognized by government of Maharashtra on April 2005. Though we have tried for aid from Government, till date we have not received it. Hence it is runs as an unaided Special School for the mentally handicapped. At present we have 12 dedicated staff working with nominal salary. Sr. Sherine Francis is the Principal of the school.
ASSISI Asha Niketan Special School for the mentally retarded is a non-residential School and children of all caste and creed is admitted as day Scholars.
