I practice psychology because I love it - and I'm good at it! I love the creative and learning process it involves. While I specialize in severe disorders such as psychosis and Autism Spectrum, I also work with many clients who are wanting support as they navigate the inevitable ups and downs of life.When I began my work 43 years ago in a state hospital in Wisconsin I was young and naïve, yet surprisingly strong and insightful as to how to intervene with my patients. I was delighted to see how my common sense, humor, and support created such an impact. Patients welcomed my genuine interactions and heart-felt care even though I was still learning the ropes. Patients appreciated my empathy and my recognition that all of us are human even if we're mentally ill or otherwise disabled. That lesson has stuck with me through all of these years.
