NATALIE ASHTON

Natalie first began working with children while she was studying for her speech studies qualification. It was then that she realised she wanted to support children with additional needs, in order for them to progress and primarily, for them to learn to communicate. She feels very strongly about the importance of communication and has seen the difference that it can make to the lives of the children she has worked with. She then did a degree in English and Lingustics at Manchester Metropolitan University and feels that this has given her a deeper understanding of the way that language works, develops and is used to communicate.<br /> Natalie was working in a residential home with adults with learning disabilities, when she came across the techniques of ABA. She was instantly amazed by the power of structured teaching and reinforcement and she knew that the adults she was working with could benefit from these techniques. She then embarked on a career which she previously had not known existed; she began working as an ABA tutor with children. Natalie has worked with a number of children, all with autistic spectrum disorders, between the ages of 3 and 17. She has enjoyed delivering ABA programmes in a number of settings, and after three and a half years of tutoring, Natalie has recently completed her masters in ABA at the University of Kent, in Canterbury and is also working towards her BCBA accreditation.
