NAVKSHITIJ was established on November 27, 2003, to improve the well -being of mentally<br /> challenged adults. We take them under our wing, organise activities, teach them life skills and<br /> vocational skills, encourage them to become as independent as possible, a nd nurture them in a<br /> compassionate environment. We understand that it becomes increasingly difficult for parents<br /> to nurture mentally challenged children as they grow up. We are committed to the well -being<br /> of mentally challenged adults during their lifetime.<br /> Initially, we set up a Day Care Centre. In June 2007, Navkshitij became a residential facility.<br /> There are 62 mentally challenged friends (MCF) residing at our two residential units, 53 MCF in<br /> Marunji and 9 MCF at Aswali. 25 special friends are benefitting from our Day Care Centre and<br /> Workshop facility. Apart from the MCF at Navkshitij, we reach more than 4000 MCF from all<br /> over Maharashtra through implementing our unique programs such as the Interschool Parvati<br /> Hill Climbing Competition, state-level Interschool Drama Competition, High-Altitude Trekking<br /> and Exchange Program.<br /> There are nine Trustees and 44 staff members to support the MCF. At Marunji, we acquired a<br /> dilapidated dwelling from the Irrigation Department on leas e and made it habitable within ten<br /> weeks. With this, we established our first permanent residential facility where special friends<br /> could live with their peers.
