Dr. Anand s. Iyer completed his schooling from Fatima Convent High School, Bhavnagar with laurels. He stood first in the district during SSC and third in the district during HSC. He completed his M.B.B.S. from BJ Medical College. He was successful in being offered pediatric residency at BJ Medical College, Ahmedabad which he completed under the mentorship of Dr Shashi Vani, Emeritus Professor of Pediatrics; and subsequently Dr Pratima Shah, Professor of Pediatrics. He was awarded Gold Medal for standing first in the pediatric residency programme and obtained Diploma in Pediatrics and subsequently MD Pediatrics. He was appointed as Assistant Professor in Pediatrics at Civil Hospital and Medical College, Bhavnagar where he gained valuable experience for 18 months. He went to UK in 2005 to pursue further specialist training in pediatrics and neonatology in various hospitals within the National Health Service (NHS). He was successful in being selected for further sub-specialty training in pediatric neurology which he underwent at Fraser of Allander Neurosciences Unit, Glasgow; Birmingham Children’s Hospital, Birmingham and Alder Hey Children’s Hospital, Liverpool. He then undertook further complex epilepsy and epilepsy surgery fellowship at Sick Kids Hospital, Toronto. He was awarded FRCPCH (Fellowship of the Royal College of Pediatrics and Child Health) in view of his outstanding contribution to the clinical care of children and training junior doctors; and obtained British Board Certification of completion of specialist training in pediatric neurology (CCT). He was subsequently appointed in 2014 as a Consultant Pediatric Neurologist at Alder Hey Children’s Hospital, Liverpool which is an internationally renowned hospital and Centre of Excellence for childhood neurological treatment where he worked for 5 years, till 2019. During this time, he was appointed as Clinical Lead for epilepsy, and particularly epilepsy surgery evaluation in children with complex epilepsies. He was also instrumental in starting the stereo-electroencephalography programme within epilepsy surgery.
