Phelang is a school for learners with special educational needs situated in Kwa-Thema, Ekurhuleni East, Gauteng. It was established in 1981 by a group of concerned community members and professionals with the aim to develop and empower marginalized children with a range of disabilities. We are a school for the severely Mentally Handicapped (SMH). In addition, we have learners who experience various disabilities, which include Cerebral Palsy, Autistic Spectrum Disorder, Hard of Hearing, Partial Sightedness and Severe Behavioural Disorder. In fact, some of our learners are wheelchair bound. Moreover, our school comprise of 424 learners, who come from neighbouring townships of Tsakane, Duduza, Daveyton as well as other suburbs such as Dunnotar and Nigel, to mention a few, who are ferried by our transport at a minimal fee. Added, our learners receive their daily ration at school.
